I would rather they keep the number of characters small and manageable than to delete your characters due to lack of space on the server. Think about it...

they do need more slots. especially since my bro takes all the chars and i'm left with only one to play with. grrrr.... WoW, even though i dislike that game, has unlimited amounts of characters.

I am aware of storage costs. I've set up systems for my company and others for storage, backup storage, RAID arrays, mirrored servers for instant failover, live off-site backup mirroring, etc. Because of this, the four character limit has always baffled me, because I'm quite aware of how little gigabytes cost in relation to all the other costs associated with running servers these days. I don't see how this could really be a money issue. They wouldn't need to start charging a monthy fee, just to expand how many characters you have. Compared to the costs of running the one character you're currently playing, the costs associated with those characters just sitting on the storage device not being currently played is miniscule.
At the same time, I suspect they set up their policy defensively. They had no idea just how many users they were going to have, so they set a fairly low limit to make damn sure they don't overwhelm their current systems. I imagine they'll up this limit sooner or later when they have a better handle on just how many accounts they're going to need to maintain storage for. But extra characters are just taking up storage space when they aren't being played, and storage space is cheap in relation to processor time, network bandwidth, sysadmin salaries, etc.

I don't know if anyone has already posted this suggestion, but I think that you should get, lets say, 2 to 4 more character slots for each expansion you buy, considering the fact that expansions come out every 6 months.

Zoozoc's statement should be feasible and fair to Anet. I personally think they are just cheap, stingy people. Even old Diablo 2 offered 8 character accounts and unlimited accounts. (although characters can now expire...)
With only ONE account, I agree with the majority that a 4 character limit is crap.

Just to put my 2 cents in...I agree there should be at least 1 character slot per primary profession and 1 slot for PvP.

why are you guys so selfish? can you not manage with 4 slots? you want more slots, some of you want up to 8 slots, whats areanets motive for doing this? they pay more for storage, and they get nothing?

I want the ability to pay for more character allocated. It would be nice if you could pay some extra to offset the server costs in order for you to have more characters. As it is I have 2 accounts.

they need 6 slots... one for each primary profession
warrior/ranger/monk/necro/element/mesmer /final slot
then the no skill points or atleast easier attainable skill points... like every bonus / or major mission gives another skill point... make more missions
also change the attribute system to just 1+2+3+4... that would make more sense
i'm on lvl 12.. i payed 12 for lvl 12 and not 20
reduce the amount of earnable attribute points to make it normal like original
also a final 7th slot for straight modifying of test PVP choices...
where you can go in and modify it with all the PVP stuff over and over again without remakes
warrior/ranger/monk/necro/element/mesmer /final slot = test pvp slot
you of course can use a ranger slot to make another warrior or whatever
